Recommendations

"Matt has served in a very responsible capacity as our Outreach Office Manager, which involves management, coordination and pomotion of every aspect of outreach for the University Libraries, including our web-based news site, public electronic and physical displays, art shows, campus/public events, exhibits related to our resources, submissions to the campus and popular press, and the very important support that he provides as a member of our Assessment Committee. His academic background in political science, his previous work experiences in the public and private sector, his overall success as an undergraduate, and his current matriculation in library school have all prepared him to assume even higher levels of responsibility in the information community. He is an excellent researcher, his planning is strategic and comprehensive, his recommendations are creative, relevant and forward-looking, he is inquisitive and bright, technologically savvy, and well-grounded in terms of self-confidence and self-esteem. In summary, he has the drive, social awareness, curiosity, creativity, initiative, personal standards, and personal awareness that will continue to stand in his stead as a fine member of the information community."

- Jim Williams, Dean of Libraries, University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries

"On a day-today basis, Matt demonstrates initiative, follow-through, willingness to pose challenging questions (and the wherewithal to do so respectfully), creativity, high standards, reflection, personal and social awareness, and an innate professionalism. Matt also brings highly developed technical, communication, and interpersonal skills to a varied and densely packed portfolio of outreach activities. In every endeavor, he applies knowledge and experience from a wide range of interests, from eastern philosophies to western political systems. His intelligence is matched by a keen humor and deep regard for the other. His intellectual creativity, often manifested in written communications, bridges the immediate problem and his visions of an evolving future. Matt's approach to new territory is to conduct research and identify trends and emerging practices. Once informed - and he is a quick study -he is comfortable working with others to consider issues and make recommendations. He actually anticipates problems, addresses them creatively, and has the confidence to suggest reasoned solutions and the willingness to take risks. Matt possesses the maturity to learn from mistakes without making excuses and the capacity to rethink ideas and approaches with aplomb. He has proven himself to be thoughtful and articulate about both processes and issues, sensitive to others, and a team player who is also willing and able to assume a leadership role."

- Deborah Fink, Outreach Librarian, University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries

"Matt is an extremely energetic and enthusiastic outreach librarian. He is capable of managing substantial events, marketing innovative ideas using new forms of technology and promoting the activities of the library through an understanding of the patron population. He is also quite facile with technology and seems to approach new ideas with a sense of adventure and experimentation, but temper his enthusiasm with the reality of the needs of the library."

- James Ascher, Cataloging Librarian. Special Collections Team, University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries
